Egypt has retained its seat on the Executive Board of the Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa (FARA) until 2029, the Ministry of Agriculture said on Saturday, extending the country’s role in the continent’s leading agricultural research body.
The ministry said Egypt will continue to be represented by the Agricultural Research Center (ARC), adding that the decision reflected the confidence of African member states in the country’s contribution to agricultural research and sustainable agricultural development.
The renewal was approved during meetings of FARA’s Executive Board and General Assembly held on the sidelines of the Ninth Africa Agriculture Science Week in Abuja, Nigeria.
Maher El-Maghrabi, deputy head of the Agricultural Research Center, said Egypt is working to translate scientific research into practical solutions that raise agricultural productivity, improve farmers’ incomes, strengthen food security and promote the sustainable use of natural resources.
“Egypt’s experience in climate-smart agriculture, modern irrigation, high-yield crop varieties and agricultural technology transfer has supported its cooperation with African countries to advance sustainable agricultural development and strengthen food security across the continent,” he emphasized.
