Uganda has confirmed a second Ebola-related death in the capital, Kampala, just days after health officials declared that all previously hospitalized patients had recovered, the Ministry of Health said on Saturday.
The latest fatality, a four-year-old child from Kibuli, succumbed to the Sudan strain of the Ebola virus at Mulago Hospital on Feb. 25, the ministry said in a statement. Uganda has now recorded 10 cases since the outbreak was declared on Jan. 30, following the death of a 32-year-old nurse.
The World Health Organization (WHO) said Monday it had begun its first Ebola vaccine trial in Uganda, aiming to assess its effectiveness in containing the outbreak and protecting at-risk populations.
Authorities have ramped up containment efforts, including active surveillance in health facilities, contact tracing, traveler screening, and targeted vaccination. Officials emphasized that Uganda remains “safe for trade, travel, and tourism.”
