President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi departed Cairo today en route to Malabo, the capital of Equatorial Guinea, to participate in the 7th Mid-Year Coordination Meeting of the African Union (AU), a key summit that brings together African heads of state and regional leaders to discuss progress on continental priorities.
Presidential Spokesman Ambassador Mohamed El Shennawy stated that President El-Sisi’s participation in the summit comes within the context of Egypt’s current leadership of the North African Regional Mechanism, as well as his chairmanship of the Heads of State and Government Orientation Committee of the African Union Development Agency (AUDA-NEPAD). The coordination meeting is traditionally attended by a select group of African leaders who represent the five regional blocs of the AU, alongside the chairperson of the AU Commission and representatives from the Regional Economic Communities (RECs).
During the summit, President El-Sisi is expected to deliver a detailed address outlining Egypt’s efforts to strengthen the role and impact of both the North African Mechanism and AUDA-NEPAD. His remarks will focus on Egypt’s initiatives to enhance peace and security across the continent and to better integrate these priorities with sustainable development goals, in line with the AU’s Agenda 2063.
President El-Sisi will also highlight Egypt’s work to promote regional cooperation, particularly in areas such as infrastructure development, food security, industrialization, and climate resilience—key pillars for ensuring long-term stability and prosperity in Africa.
On the sidelines of the summit, President El-Sisi is expected to hold bilateral meetings with several African counterparts to exchange views on current regional and continental challenges, including ongoing conflicts, economic pressures, and the impacts of global disruptions. Discussions will also explore ways to strengthen African-led solutions and joint frameworks that support the aspirations of African nations for growth, peace, and inclusive development.
Ambassador El Shennawy emphasized that President El-Sisi’s participation underscores Egypt’s deep commitment to supporting African unity, integration, and development, and its belief in the importance of collective leadership to meet the continent’s challenges and realize its shared ambitions.
