Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi and Ghanaian President John Mahama discussed strengthening trade, investment and economic cooperation as Ghana prepares to assume the African Union (AU) presidency in 2027.
The talks took place in New Alamein on the sidelines of the eighth AU Mid-Year Coordination Meeting, according to the Egyptian presidency.
Al-Sisi said Egypt looks forward to close coordination with Ghana during its upcoming AU presidency, while calling for stronger bilateral relations, particularly in trade and investment.
He also highlighted the role of the private sector in deepening economic ties and welcomed the growing presence of Egyptian companies in Ghana, praising the support provided by Ghanaian authorities for their operations and expansion.
The Egyptian presidency did not announce any new investment agreements or specific projects following the meeting. However, the two sides expressed interest in increasing trade and investment and making greater use of Egyptian expertise in sectors identified as priorities by Ghana.
In turn, Mahama said Ghana looks forward to continued consultation and coordination with Egypt during its AU presidency.
He also hailed the contribution of Egyptian companies to development projects in Ghana and expressed interest in expanding cooperation in sectors where Egypt has established expertise and capabilities, according to the presidency.
The discussions come as Ghana prepares to take on a greater role within the continental bloc, creating an opportunity for Cairo and Accra to expand economic cooperation while coordinating on African priorities.
