Egypt and Chad discussed expanding cultural cooperation, including museum development, film festivals and youth-focused cultural initiatives, during talks between Egyptian Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and Acting Minister of Culture Abdel Aziz Konsowa and Chadian Minister of Tourism Development, Culture and Handicrafts Abakar Rozzi Teguil.
The meeting was held on Friday on the sidelines of Konsowa’s visit to N’Djamena to participate in the fourth session of the Egyptian-Chadian Joint Committee.
The two ministers reviewed opportunities to deepen cooperation in culture and handicrafts, including Chad’s participation in Egyptian film festivals and the Cairo International Book Fair (CIBF). They also explored joint cultural programs targeting children and youth, alongside exchanges of expertise aimed at strengthening cultural ties between the two countries.
Konsowa said cultural cooperation reflects the longstanding fraternal relations between Egypt and Chad, highlighting the growing coordination between President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and Chadian President Mahamat Idriss Déby.
He affirmed the importance of building on the strong political relationship to broaden collaboration across cultural sectors and deepen people-to-people ties.
The talks also focused on plans to establish a national museum in Chad, with Egypt offering its experience in museum management, heritage preservation and the protection of cultural assets.
Both sides further discussed organizing joint cultural events to promote cultural exchange and reinforce bilateral cooperation.
The ministers agreed to maintain close coordination between their respective cultural institutions and develop practical mechanisms to implement agreed initiatives, with the aim of opening new avenues for cultural partnership and strengthening Egyptian-Chadian relations.
In recent years, Egypt and Chad have steadily expanded bilateral cooperation across political, economic, security and development sectors. Cultural diplomacy has become an increasingly important pillar of the relationship, complementing broader efforts by Cairo to strengthen engagement with African partners through heritage preservation, education, training and cultural exchange programs.
