North Kordofan Accuses RSF of Drone Strikes on Civilian Facilities in El-Obeid

Authorities in Sudan’s North Kordofan state on Monday accused the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) of launching drone strikes on civilian facilities in El-Obeid, the state capital.

The state government said the reported attacks targeted the Sports City and the privately run Shikan University College, describing the strikes as a violation of international humanitarian law.

In a statement, the government said: “Targeting civilian, educational and sports facilities constitutes a blatant attack on citizens and their resources and a violation of international humanitarian law.”

No casualties or material damage were reported in the alleged strikes, according to the statement.

The North Kordofan authorities called on the international community, as well as rights and humanitarian organizations, to condemn the reported attacks, protect civilians, document alleged violations and ensure accountability for those responsible.

The RSF had not immediately commented on the allegations.

The accusations come amid a broader escalation in the use of drones during Sudan’s ongoing conflict. The United Nations said last month that about 1,100 civilians were killed in drone attacks across the country between January and June.

Sudan’s three Kordofan states, North, West and South Kordofan, have witnessed fighting between the Sudanese army and the RSF since October 2025, as the conflict has expanded into new areas.

The war between the army and the RSF has continued since April 2023, killing tens of thousands of people and displacing around 13 million, according to UN and international estimates.
