The Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) have strongly rejected the recent announcement by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) regarding the formation of a parallel government, describing it as a “desperate attempt” to legitimize what the army calls a criminal project.
In an official statement published Sunday on the SAF’s Facebook page, army spokesperson Brigadier General Nabil Abdullah said: “The so-called militia government is a deceitful move, even towards their own partners in betrayal. The real project of the Dagalo clan is to seize power to fulfill their illegitimate personal ambitions and pursue their racist agenda in ruling a country they never truly belonged to.”
He added that the RSF’s declared government is part of a broader scheme to serve foreign agendas: “They are willing to become tools in the hands of regional players whose objectives exceed their limited understanding, all in the name of power and looting protected by influence.”
The statement further accused the RSF of staging a “pathetic charade composed of a mix of ignorant figures, collaborators, and war criminals,” and warned that such maneuvers aim to cover up the group’s crimes and facilitate foreign interference.
Despite the rising tensions, the army reaffirmed its commitment to national unity: “Their dreams—and those of their foreign backers—will be shattered. Sudan will remain one, united, thanks to the resilience of its people, their national will, and their support for their leadership and armed forces.”
The RSF’s move to form an alternative administration comes amid the protracted civil conflict between the paramilitary group and the national army, which has devastated much of the country since fighting erupted in April 2023. The SAF’s latest statement signals continued resistance to any political alternative outside the framework of the central state, as well as a growing war of narratives between the two sides.
