The meeting was held on the sidelines of the first Alamein-Africa Business Forum, which is being held under the patronage of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi.

Madbouly congratulated Ndejembi on assuming his position last month and expressed Egypt’s interest in working with him to further strengthen the longstanding ties between the two countries.

The Egyptian Prime Minister said Cairo is keen to increase Egyptian investments in Tanzania, noting that Egyptian companies are prepared to expand their presence in the Tanzanian market across a range of development sectors.

Also, he highlighted the progress in bilateral relations following Al-Sisi’s visit to Tanzania and the subsequent visit by Madbouly, on behalf of the President, to inaugurate the Julius Nyerere Hydropower Dam and Station.

Madbouly described the project as a symbol of Egyptian-Tanzanian cooperation and a model for major development projects undertaken through African partnerships.

Transport, Ports and Logistics

The two sides discussed opportunities for cooperation in maritime transport and logistics, with Madbouly expressing Egypt’s readiness to participate in the construction and management of new berths as part of the expansion of Tanzania’s Dar es Salaam Port.

He also welcomed a planned visit by Tanzania’s Transport Minister to Egyptian ports, offering technical support and expertise to help Tanzania develop its port and transport infrastructure.

In turn, Ndejembi said Tanzania is interested in learning from Egypt’s experience in managing and operating ports, particularly as the country works to expand Dar es Salaam Port and develop a new port.

He confirmed that Tanzania’s Transport Minister will visit several Egyptian seaports to study their management and operational systems.

Agriculture and Healthcare Cooperation

Madbouly also proposed exploring a phased agricultural land-reclamation project in Tanzania, drawing on Egyptian expertise in agriculture and food production.

The initiative could help strengthen food supplies and supply chains while supporting food self-sufficiency in both countries, according to the Egyptian Prime Minister.

Cairo also expressed readiness to expand healthcare cooperation by sending medical convoys to Tanzania, training Tanzanian doctors in Egyptian hospitals and supporting the development of Tanzania’s healthcare sector.

Ndejembi welcomed the proposal and praised the existing medical cooperation between the two countries, expressing interest in sending more Tanzanian medical professionals to Egypt for specialized training.

Nile Water Cooperation

The meeting also addressed Nile water issues, with Madbouly stressing Egypt’s support for development projects across the Nile Basin while reaffirming Cairo’s position on protecting its water rights.

He noted that Egypt has contributed to development projects in Nile Basin countries, including dam projects in Sudan and Uganda, as well as the Julius Nyerere Hydropower Project in Tanzania.

On his part, Egypt’s Water Resources and Irrigation Minister Hani Sewilam reaffirmed Cairo’s support for sustainable development projects in Nile Basin countries, provided they comply with international law governing shared watercourses.

Sewilam affirmed the importance of promoting common interests and mutual benefit among Nile Basin countries without harming the interests of any party.

Ndejembi, meanwhile, conveyed Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s greetings to Al-Sisi and expressed appreciation for Egypt’s hospitality and the strong historical ties between the two countries.

He also hailed the Julius Nyerere project as one of Africa’s major development projects and commended the work of the Arab Contractors and Elsewedy Electric consortium implementing the project, expressing Tanzania’s interest in further cooperation with Egypt on strategic development initiatives.
