Libya is preparing to inaugurate a new passenger terminal at Benina International Airport, a flagship infrastructure project that authorities say marks a significant step in the country’s efforts to modernize its transport network and support economic recovery.
The project, led by the Libya Development and Reconstruction Fund (LDRF), is the most extensive upgrade to the airport since it was established, replacing decades-old infrastructure with a modern passenger terminal designed to meet international aviation standards.
Libyan authorities say the new facility is intended to strengthen Benina International Airport’s role as a regional gateway linking North Africa, the Arab world and international destinations, while improving passenger capacity and operational efficiency.
The inauguration is expected to draw senior government officials, aviation executives, airline representatives, international organizations, investors and media from across the region and beyond.
The project forms part of Libya’s broader reconstruction and infrastructure development agenda aimed at improving connectivity, facilitating trade and investment, boosting tourism and supporting long-term economic growth.
Authorities have yet to announce the official opening date, saying further details of the inauguration ceremony will be released in due course.
