Ethiopian Airlines has confirmed that all passengers aboard Flight ET-298 are safe following a minor runway incident upon landing at Mekelle’s Alula Abanega Airport on Thursday.
The flight, which departed from Addis Ababa, skidded into a muddy area while landing in rainy weather conditions. In a statement, the airline noted that all passengers disembarked safely with no reported injuries.
However, two crew members sustained minor injuries and were taken to a nearby medical facility for treatment. They have since been released and are currently resting at a hotel.
The incident, which quickly drew attention on social media, raised concerns due to Mekelle’s strategic importance and the recent resumption of flights to the Tigray region. Ethiopian Airlines reiterated that it prioritizes passenger safety and apologized for any disruption caused.
An investigation is underway, and the airline pledged to provide further information as it becomes available.
