President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi of Egypt and President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda held a telephone conversation Friday, focusing on regional stability and the strengthening of their countries’ bilateral ties. According to Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy, the Egyptian Presidency Spokesperson, the call highlighted the deep-rooted historical connections between the Egyptian and Ugandan peoples.
Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing joint collaboration and identifying new avenues for bilateral relations across diverse sectors. Their discussions emphasised the mutual benefit of such cooperation, acknowledging their significant roles within Africa. This was particularly in the context of boosting collaboration and coordination among the countries of the Nile Basin.
The presidents also addressed pressing issues in East Africa and the Horn of Africa. President Al-Sisi detailed Egypt’s initiatives to support Sudan in resolving its current crisis and to facilitate a ceasefire. He stressed the need to safeguard the Sudanese population from the effects of the conflict and ensure the effective delivery of humanitarian aid. President Museveni expressed his gratitude for Egypt’s efforts.
Additionally, the conversation turned to the situation in Somalia. Both presidents confirmed their dedication to Somalia’s independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. They noted the importance of coordinating efforts in relation to the new African Union mission in Somalia and its role in assisting the Somali government.
The upcoming African Union Extraordinary Summit on Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programmes, to be hosted by Uganda, was another key topic. President Al-Sisi underscored the necessity for African policies that bolster agricultural industries. He also spoke of the importance of empowering small farmers, women, and young people by improving their access to funding and affordable loans. These measures would facilitate access to markets and trade and encourage the use of digital technologies to support agricultural development.
