Egypt has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting African efforts to consolidate peace and stability and promote post-conflict reconstruction and development, with Cairo highlighting its role in advancing the African Union’s agenda in this area.
Egyptian Ambassador to Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the African Union (AU), Obeida El-Dandrawy, took part in events in Addis Ababa marking the launch of the African Union’s Post-Conflict Reconstruction and Development (PCRD) Month.
The events included a wreath-laying ceremony honouring African peacekeeping personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty, followed by an open session of the AU Peace and Security Council. The gatherings were attended by several ambassadors, permanent representatives to the AU, and representatives of regional and international organisations.

During the events, El-Dandrawy highlighted President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s leadership of the AU’s post-conflict reconstruction and development agenda, stressing Egypt’s commitment to supporting countries emerging from conflicts in rebuilding national institutions, restoring essential services and creating conditions for sustainable development.
He also affirmed the significance of hosting the AU Centre for Post-Conflict Reconstruction and Development in Cairo, emphasising the need to strengthen its capabilities, provide the necessary resources to fulfil its mandate and enhance its role in supporting African countries in line with their national priorities.
The Egyptian ambassador further stressed the importance of strengthening coordination between the African Union, regional economic communities, the United Nations, including its Peacebuilding Commission, and international partners to ensure complementary efforts and tangible results on the ground.
He emphasised that post-conflict recovery initiatives should respect national ownership and leadership, while linking efforts to restore security and stability with institution-building and economic and social recovery.
