Nigeria’s Dangote Group is considering Egypt as a strategic destination for expanding its industrial investments across Africa, with potential projects in oil refining, petrochemicals, fertilizers and manufacturing emerging as key areas of cooperation between the two countries.
The announcement followed a high-level Egyptian delegation’s visit on Sunday to the Dangote Industrial Complex in Lagos, Nigeria, headed by Investment and Foreign Trade Minister Mohamed Farid. The delegation held talks with Aliko Dangote, Chairman and CEO of the group, focusing on potential investments and industrial partnerships, particularly in oil refining, petrochemicals, fertilizers and manufacturing.
Farid said the visit seeks to translate the strong economic and diplomatic ties between Egypt and Nigeria into concrete investment opportunities and mutually beneficial industrial partnerships.
He highlighted the significant economic potential of the two countries, whose combined populations stand at approximately 400 million, describing their markets as a substantial platform for industrial integration, expanded production and cross-border investment.
The minister stressed that closer industrial cooperation could boost production capacity, generate employment, facilitate technology transfer and strengthen upstream and complementary industries. He also underscored the importance of placing the private sector at the forefront of bilateral economic cooperation.
For his part, Dangote reaffirmed the group’s commitment to expanding its investments across Africa and supporting the continent’s industrialization and economic development. He expressed interest in deepening cooperation with Egyptian companies and exploring new investment opportunities in the Egyptian market.
During the discussions, representatives of Egypt’s Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources outlined the country’s competitive advantages as an investment destination for refining and petrochemical projects.
They highlighted Egypt’s established infrastructure, including ports, storage facilities and networks for transporting and handling petroleum products, as key assets supporting the development of industrial projects serving both domestic demand and international export markets.
The talks form part of Dangote Group’s Vision 2030 strategy, which seeks to expand its industrial investments across Africa, strengthen regional value chains and position the continent as a globally competitive manufacturing and industrial hub.
Dangote’s potential expansion into Egypt could open new avenues for Egyptian-Nigerian industrial cooperation, particularly in strategic sectors such as refining, petrochemicals and manufacturing, while creating opportunities for greater private-sector investment and regional economic integration.
