Kenya Restores Power After Major Blackout Disrupts Electricity and Internet

Kenya Power and Lighting Company announced the restoration of power supply on Wednesday following a significant blackout that disrupted electricity and internet access across most of the country. The blackout, which began at 1:28 AM, lasted for approximately six hours before power was fully restored.

The outage, which has been described as one of the latest in a series of disruptions to Kenya’s power grid, impacted major parts of the country. While the exact cause of the outage remains undetermined, it led to a sharp reduction in internet connectivity, as noted by global internet monitoring service NetBlocks. According to their data, the power failure caused widespread disruptions in internet access throughout Kenya, with neighboring Tanzania also affected.

Kenya Power assured the public that the situation had been fully addressed and that all affected areas had their electricity supply restored. Despite the widespread disruption, the company’s statement emphasized that efforts were promptly made to resolve the issue.

This event highlights ongoing concerns about the stability of Kenya’s energy infrastructure and its ability to withstand future disruptions, especially as reliance on digital connectivity and electricity continues to grow.
