The United States has denounced a recent airstrike targeting a convoy operated by the World Food Programme (WFP) in Sudan’s South Kordofan state that killed a humanitarian worker, calling for an end to attacks against aid personnel and unimpeded humanitarian access to civilians at risk of famine.
Massad Boulos, US presidential adviser for African affairs, said in a post on X that the convoy was carrying urgently needed food supplies when it came under attack in South Kordofan.
“The United States condemns this attack,” Boulos said, adding that the killing of a humanitarian worker was part of a serious series of attacks targeting WFP operations in Sudan.
Ninth Airstrike Targeting WFP Operations
Boulos said the latest incident marked the ninth airstrike targeting WFP operations in Sudan since the beginning of 2026, describing the repeated attacks as a “clear and dangerous pattern.”
He called for an immediate end to attacks against humanitarian workers and stressed the need to ensure that humanitarian assistance reaches civilians without obstruction.
“People in Sudan who need food and humanitarian assistance need access now and without obstruction,” Boulos stressed.
The latest attack comes as humanitarian organizations continue to face major challenges in delivering food and other essential assistance to communities affected by the conflict and facing the threat of famine.
