Senior leaders from Ethiopia’s Amhara region gathered in Bahir Dar for critical talks on peace-building, governance reforms, and sustainable development, as reported by the Amhara Media Corporation.
The discussions, led by Chief Administrator Arega Kebede, focused on setting a long-term vision for the region, with an emphasis on a 25-year strategic plan to guide short and mid-term reforms. Arega stressed the importance of restructuring regional institutions to ensure future readiness, based on a recent study.
Among the attendees were Deputy Chief Administrator Abdu Hussein (PhD), Regional Council Speaker Fantu Tesfaye, and Yirga Sisay, head of the Prosperity Party’s Amhara branch. A key topic of the talks was addressing the ongoing security challenges in the region, especially the conflict between government forces and Fano militias, which has led to widespread destruction and displacement.
The situation remains dire, with the ongoing conflict severely affecting infrastructure, livelihoods, and basic services. Calls for immediate de-escalation and dialogue continue to grow as the humanitarian crisis worsens.
