Tanzanian President Reshuffles Cabinet, Announces Key Appointments

President Samia Suluhu Hassan has unveiled a significant cabinet reshuffle, introducing structural changes and appointing new leaders across various ministries. The most notable development is the merger of the information sector with the Ministry of Culture, Arts, and Sports, a move aimed at streamlining government functions and enhancing efficiency.

In this reshuffle, Prof. Palamagamba Kabudi has been appointed to head the newly combined Ministry of Information, Culture, Arts, and Sports. This consolidation reflects the administration’s focus on integrating cultural and artistic endeavors with communication strategies to boost Tanzania’s global outreach and internal coherence.

Other prominent appointments include Jerry William Silaa as Minister of Communication and Information Technology, pivotal to advancing Tanzania’s digital transformation, and Dr. Damas Daniel Ndumbaro (MP) as Minister of Constitution and Law, tasked with guiding legal reforms.

Key ministerial changes also see Hamad Yusuf Masauni assuming the role of Union and Environment Minister in the Office of the Vice President, with Innocent Bashungwa taking over Masauni’s previous portfolio at the Ministry of Home Affairs. Meanwhile, Dr. Ashatu Kijaji has been named Minister of Livestock and Fisheries, and Abdallah Ulega has stepped in as Minister of Works.

Administrative Changes and Reassignments
The reshuffle also affects several senior administrative positions. Gerson Msigwa returns as Chief Government Spokesperson while serving as Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Culture, Arts, and Sports. His dual role underscores the government’s effort to synchronize public communications with cultural initiatives.

In addition, Dr. James Henry Kilabuko has been appointed Permanent Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office (Policy, Parliament, and Coordination). Deputy permanent secretaries in the Ministries of Agriculture and Industry and Trade have also been reassigned to support the evolving governmental framework.

The newly appointed officials will be sworn in on Tuesday at State House in Tunguu, Zanzibar, marking the beginning of their terms in reshaped roles.

This sweeping reshuffle highlights President Hassan’s commitment to reforming governance, enhancing efficiency, and addressing Tanzania’s developmental challenges through a dynamic and streamlined cabinet.
