The role of BRICS+ in global governance reform will lead the agenda at the 10th BRICS Conference hosted by the University of Sao Paulo, an event marking the 20th anniversary of the group’s formation.
The conference, titled “BRICS+ and 20 Years of Global Governance Reform,” will be held entirely online from October 26 to 30. It is organised by the BRICS Studies Group at the University of Sao Paulo (GEBRICS-USP) in collaboration with its international media partner, the TV BRICS International Media Network.
The programme includes ten thematic panels covering global governance, the energy transition, international trade, development finance, international security, culture, and digital sovereignty. Evgeniya Syrova, TV BRICS International Projects Coordinator, is scheduled to deliver a lecture on the group.
Lucas Enriquez Rocha, coordinator of the BRICS Study Group at the University of Sao Paulo, stated that the organisers intend to make knowledge about the group accessible to a broader audience beyond subject-matter experts.
“We very much hope that this event will serve as a platform for exchanging ideas and knowledge about the group and will enable attendees to broaden their horizons,” Rocha said.
Known as Jornadas do BRICS, the annual academic conferences are hosted by the Faculty of Law at the University of Sao Paulo to bring together researchers, diplomats, and students to discuss current international issues and strengthen the academic capacity of BRICS+ countries.
This year’s meeting commemorates the first informal gathering of BRICS representatives, which took place in New York in 2006. Participation is free of charge, with broadcasts available on GEBRICS’ social media channels.
