South Sudanese President Salva Kiir has removed Foreign Minister Ramadan Mohammed Abdallah Goc from office, according to a presidential decree broadcast Wednesday evening on state television.
In the unexpected announcement aired on South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation (SSBC), President Kiir appointed Monday Semaya Kumba as the new Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. The decree did not specify any reasons for the ministerial change.
Semaya previously held the position of Deputy Foreign Minister and earlier served as South Sudan’s ambassador to China. He was elevated to the role of deputy minister in April 2024.
Abdallah’s tenure as foreign minister lasted less than a year, having assumed office on April 24, 2024.
