A disturbing video circulating on social media reportedly depicts the execution of a young man in Ethiopia, causing widespread shock and condemnation. The graphic footage, which cannot be shared due to its disturbing nature, shows a man, believed to be in his twenties, with his hands bound, seated in front of his family members before being shot at point-blank range.
The location, time, and circumstances surrounding the incident remain unverified. The Oromo Liberation Army (OLA), a separatist group operating in the Oromia region, has claimed responsibility for the execution, stating in a post on social media: “This is how Abiy Ahmed’s soldiers conduct ‘law and order operations’ across Oromia: by executing civilians every day.”
The Ethiopian government has not commented on the latest video. The identities of those in the video, including the family members, have not been confirmed. This incident follows a similar occurrence a few months ago in Fitche, where a young man’s execution was also recorded. In that case, it was alleged that a “Fano” militia member was involved, though the incident was never independently verified.
In related reports, a credible Ethiopian news outlet confirmed that two brothers were executed after being forcibly removed from a vehicle in the Amhara region, between Dega Damot and Bahir Dar, in Adet town. The Ethiopian government has not responded to these claims either.
Human rights organizations both within Ethiopia and internationally have repeatedly raised concerns about extrajudicial killings targeting civilians, particularly in the Amhara region, since the Ethiopian government launched its so-called “law enforcement operation” in the region in August 2023.
