Ethiopia and Canada have reaffirmed their longstanding diplomatic ties and expressed readiness to deepen cooperation in key sectors, following a high-level meeting held in Addis Ababa.
Ethiopia’s State Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Hadera Abera, met with Caroline Mary Delany, Director General for Eastern, Central, and Southern African Affairs at Global Affairs Canada. The talks focused on strengthening bilateral relations, particularly economic engagement.
Ambassador Hadera emphasized Ethiopia’s “strong and longstanding” relationship with Canada and highlighted the country’s attractive investment environment, calling on Canadian firms to increase their footprint in sectors like agriculture, manufacturing, and energy.
He also provided an overview of Ethiopia’s peace and security developments at the national and regional levels, underscoring the government’s efforts to ensure long-term stability and economic recovery.
Delany, for her part, reiterated that “Canada views Ethiopia as a key partner in the region” and expressed Canada’s interest in expanding cooperation in areas such as agriculture, mining, and health. She noted that Canadian stakeholders are keen to support Ethiopia’s sustainable development agenda through both public and private partnerships.
The meeting also touched on a range of global issues of mutual concern, as both sides pledged to maintain close diplomatic dialogue and enhance collaboration on international platforms.
