Mini Arko Minawi, Governor of Sudan’s Darfur region, has sharply criticized the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for allegedly supporting the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Sudan’s ongoing conflict. In an interview with Sputnik Africa, Minawi called on the international community to hold the UAE accountable for its actions, accusing it of exacerbating violence and undermining Sudan’s sovereignty.
UAE Accused of Supporting RSF and Fueling Atrocities
“The Emirates are part of the United Nations, and the international community must act. I urge them to tell the UAE, ‘Stop killing the people of Sudan. Enough is enough,’” Minawi stated.
He further accused the UAE of complicity in atrocities committed in displacement camps across Darfur, including those in Zamzam and El Fasher. According to Minawi, the UAE’s alleged actions have intensified the humanitarian crisis and jeopardized Sudan’s unity.
Russia’s Veto Praised as a Stand for Sudan’s Sovereignty
In contrast, Minawi praised Russia for its recent veto of a UK-drafted UN Security Council resolution on Sudan, which was co-sponsored by Sierra Leone. The resolution, he claimed, sought to divide Sudan and interfere in its internal affairs.
“The resolution was aimed at destroying Sudan, at dividing it. Russia’s veto was a significant stand against such interference, and we are grateful for their support,” Minawi said.
Highlighting Russia’s broader role in fostering Sudan’s unity, he added: “Russia has many opportunities to contribute to Sudan’s unity and stability, as demonstrated by their veto in the Security Council.”
The Sudan War: A Fight Against Foreign Interference
Addressing Sudan’s broader conflict, Minawi attributed the war to the RSF, accusing them of instigating violence and threatening national sovereignty. He defended the Sudan Armed Forces and allied groups, framing the conflict as a struggle to safeguard Sudan against external meddling.
“We are fighting to preserve our unity and push out elements that aim to destroy our country,” he remarked, emphasizing that the ultimate goal is to achieve national unity and pave the way for democratic transformation.
International Community Urged to Support Sudan
Minawi called for greater international involvement in resolving Sudan’s crisis, criticizing the global community for failing to fulfill its responsibilities.
“For the past two years, the international community has neglected its legitimate role. It must respect human rights and take principled action,” he urged.
He also stressed the importance of fostering cooperation and mutual interests between Sudan and other nations.
“We are not isolated. Sudan needs the world, and the world needs Sudan. Collaboration is key to addressing shared challenges and advancing our collective goals,” he concluded.
