Total investment commitments exceeded $17bn after African countries presented 15 new energy projects to potential investors at African Energy Week 2026 in Cape Town.
The proposals cover oil and gas exploration and production, energy infrastructure development, and the construction of power stations. The event, for which the TV BRICS International Media Network acted as the information partner, gathered more than 12,000 participants from October 12 to 16, including government representatives, energy companies, financial institutions, and technology providers.
Among the presented initiatives are plans to increase oil production in South Africa from 30,000 to 80,000 barrels per day by 2029, alongside the development of a heavy oil production project in East Africa. In Central Africa, investors were offered an offshore oil field where tests on two wells demonstrated a flow rate of up to 1,600 barrels per day.
The forum also featured a presentation on an offshore gas condensate field project in South Africa and plans to develop new oil production blocks. Additional proposals include the expansion of a liquefied petroleum gas storage terminal and the construction of a 180-megawatt gas-fired power station in West Africa.
Following the forum, participating countries presented new opportunities for geological exploration. Liberia offered investors 15 oil and gas blocks, Senegal presented 104 blocks, and Algeria offered seven blocks.
