During an official visit to Ethiopia by Belarusian Foreign Minister Maxim Ryzhenkov, Ethiopia formally requested Belarusian assistance in developing its mineral deposits, according to a statement from the Belarusian Foreign Ministry. The high-level delegation engaged in a series of talks with senior Ethiopian officials, including Minister of Mines Habtamu Tegegne, focusing on broadening bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors.

Central to the discussions was Ethiopia’s interest in leveraging Belarusian expertise to unlock the full potential of its mineral resources. The two sides explored prospects for joint ventures, the supply of Belarusian mining and industrial equipment, and the training of Ethiopian professionals at Belarusian universities.

Beyond the mining sector, the talks extended to agricultural modernization, including mechanization support and fertilizer supply. Defense and military-technical cooperation were also discussed, as was the possibility of Ethiopia adopting elements of Belarus’s successful High-Tech Park model to accelerate its digital transformation.

Additional areas of collaboration included peaceful nuclear energy, business incubation, and industrial modernization using Belarusian technology. The two nations also explored cultural exchanges, particularly in museum expertise, and broader humanitarian cooperation.

The visit marked a significant step toward deepening strategic ties between Addis Ababa and Minsk, with both countries signaling intent to transform shared priorities into long-term partnerships.
