Ethiopia’s Chief of Staff, Field Marshal Birhanu Jula, has embarked on a high-level visit to Rwanda to strengthen military cooperation and expand strategic partnerships between the two countries. During his visit, Field Marshal Birhanu held official talks with General Mubarak Muganga, the Commander-in-Chief of the Rwandan Defence Forces, underscoring mutual commitment to regional peace and long-term bilateral collaboration.
According to a statement from the Rwandan military, the visit reflects both nations’ interest in enhancing cooperation across various defense and security sectors, while also opening the door for new avenues of partnership. The exchange comes less than a month after General Muganga’s reciprocal visit to Ethiopia in mid-March, signaling a growing defense alliance between the two countries.
Field Marshal Birhanu is also expected to visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial to honor the victims of the 1994 Rwandan genocide, reflecting the symbolic and diplomatic weight of the visit. The ongoing engagement between the Ethiopian and Rwandan armed forces highlights their joint aspirations for a stable and secure Horn of Africa and Great Lakes region.
