Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth has reported that Egypt did not invite Israel’s newly appointed ambassador, Ori Rotman, to a recent reception for new diplomats in Cairo. This move is seen as a reflection of growing tensions between the two countries, particularly in light of ongoing Israeli military operations in Gaza.
According to the report, Egypt has yet to grant official approval for Rotman’s appointment, despite Israel submitting its request in April 2024. The delay comes amid heightened diplomatic frictions, with Egypt expressing dissatisfaction over Israel’s actions in Gaza and broader regional dynamics.
Egypt has traditionally played a key role in mediating conflicts between Israel and Hamas.
