El Dabaa Nuclear Plant Site Has Capacity for Four Additional Power Units, Project Director Says
SHARE

The El Dabaa nuclear power plant (NPP) site has sufficient space to accommodate four more power units in addition to the four currently under construction, according to Alexey Kononenko, Project Director of the El Dabaa NPP. Speaking at the International Youth Forum for Sustainable Nuclear Technologies in Alexandria, he expressed optimism about the continued collaboration between Egypt and Russia in the field of nuclear energy.

Construction of the El Dabaa NPP commenced in 2022, approximately 320 kilometers northwest of Cairo. The plant features four VVER-1200 pressurized water reactors, three of which are already operational, with a total power generation capacity of 4,800 megawatts.

Kononenko highlighted the importance of engaging young professionals in the nuclear sector, emphasizing that the forum provides a valuable platform for aspiring specialists to gain deeper insight into nuclear energy technologies and their future potential.

He also noted that Egyptian and Russian engineers and technicians are being actively recruited and trained in specialized fields to support the El Dabaa project.

Meanwhile, Mohamed Dwiddar, Chairman of Egypt’s Nuclear Power Plants Authority, praised the partnership between Egypt and Russia, describing it as a significant step forward in strengthening Egypt’s energy infrastructure and ensuring long-term benefits for the country.
