South Africa intends to establish a G20 Africa Expert Panel to support the G20 Finance Track, Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana has announced. The minister made the statement during a G20 Finance and Central Bank Deputies Meeting in Sandton, Johannesburg.

Godongwana emphasised that the primary goal of South Africa’s G20 Presidency is to advance the African agenda. To achieve this, the expert panel will be created to strengthen the G20’s response to the continent’s social and economic needs.

“To further this agenda and ensure that we strengthen the manner in which the G20 responds to the social and economic needs of our continent, we intend to establish a G20 Africa Expert Panel to support the G20 Finance Track,” Godongwana said.

The panel will focus on initiatives such as the Compact with Africa, which aims to foster sustainable growth and tackle social challenges across the continent.

Minister Godongwana also highlighted the necessity of reforming the G20 financial architecture to address global challenges, such as climate change, poverty eradication and sustainable development.

He stressed the crucial role of the private sector in achieving the G20’s objectives, assuring that South Africa is prepared to collaborate with businesses and international partners.

Throughout its year-long presidency, South Africa will host over 130 meetings in all of the country’s provinces. These meetings will welcome tens of thousands of delegates from nearly 30 countries and more than 20 international organisations.

The G20 Leaders’ Summit, which will conclude South Africa’s chairmanship, will take place in Johannesburg in November 2025. This information was initially reported by BusinessTech.
