Somali Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre has done a significant reshuffle of his cabinet, naming a new defense minister for the second time in less than two months. The key changes include:
- Ahmed Moallim Fiqi, formerly the Foreign Minister, appointed as the new Defense Minister.
- Jibril Abdirashid Haji Abdi, the previous Defense Minister, now takes on the role of Second Deputy Prime Minister.
- Abdisalan Abdi Ali Dhaay, previously the Second Deputy Prime Minister, is now appointed as the new Foreign Minister.
This reshuffle comes after the Somali National Army’s recent success in the southern part of the country, where over 20 Khawarij militants, including high-ranking leaders, were eliminated, as reported by the Somali National News Agency (SONNA).
In parallel, Somalia’s Interior Ministry has initiated a national gathering of traditional elders in Mogadishu to further strengthen efforts in the ongoing battle against al-Shabaab, according to SONNA.
