Fano rebels in Ethiopia’s Amhara region have claimed to have killed more than 100 government soldiers, captured over 300, and seized control of a town in the South Gondar zone.

In a statement, the Fano militia group said its forces conducted a successful operation in the town of Ebnat, specifically in the areas of Selamaya and Dega Melza.

The group claimed a Colonel Hussein was among the more than 300 government troops captured. It added that over 100 soldiers were killed and many others were wounded in the fighting.

The Fano statement also said its forces had taken full control of the city of Ebnat.

The rebels claimed to have captured significant military equipment, including eight Bren machine guns, a mortar, a DShK heavy machine gun, four sniper rifles, and over 100 Kalashnikov assault rifles.
