Egypt has reiterated its firm support for all regional and international initiatives aimed at reaching a peaceful resolution to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Cairo emphasized the importance of dialogue, diplomacy, and constructive engagement as the only viable means to end the war and restore stability to the region.
The ministry highlighted that Egypt has been closely monitoring the recent consultations held in Saudi Arabia, which brought together delegations from the United States and Ukraine to explore paths toward de-escalation and ceasefire. According to the statement, Egypt views such diplomatic efforts as vital steps in paving the way for a lasting settlement that addresses the concerns of all parties involved.
Egypt also pointed to its active participation in multiple international initiatives, including those led by Arab and African nations as well as the “Friends of Peace” group. These efforts, the ministry noted, reflect Egypt’s longstanding commitment to fostering peace, promoting regional security, and supporting international law.
The latest developments come in the wake of a meeting held on March 11 in Jeddah, where the US and Ukrainian delegations discussed a possible ceasefire proposal. Following the talks, the Ukrainian presidency issued a joint statement confirming Kiev’s openness to a 30-day ceasefire proposed by Washington, with the possibility of extending it based on mutual consent. The statement also announced the immediate resumption of US intelligence sharing and military support to Ukraine.
In a parallel development, Russian President Vladimir Putin addressed the proposal during remarks made on March 13. He expressed conditional approval of the ceasefire plan, emphasizing that any suspension of hostilities must ultimately contribute to a durable peace and tackle the root causes that led to the conflict in the first place. Putin’s statement indicated a cautious openness to the proposed framework, provided that it leads to genuine security guarantees and balanced outcomes for all stakeholders.
Egypt’s renewed call for peaceful resolution underscores its neutral and balanced foreign policy stance, which prioritizes dialogue over confrontation and seeks to support multilateral frameworks for conflict resolution. As global efforts to halt the fighting intensify, Egypt’s diplomatic role in bridging viewpoints between East and West continues to gain relevance, especially amid growing calls for a multipolar approach to international peacebuilding.
