Azerbaijan and Somalia signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on oil and gas cooperation in Baku on Thursday, Azerbaijan’s Energy Ministry said.
The agreement, signed by Azerbaijani Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov and Somali Petroleum Minister Dahir Shire Mohamed, aims to strengthen collaboration in the energy sector through knowledge exchange, training programs, and joint industry events.
“The memorandum includes cooperation on training Somali students in Azerbaijan’s oil and gas institutions, participation in specialized events, and the organization of joint forums,” the ministry said in a statement.
Somalia, which is looking to develop its nascent energy sector, sees the deal as a strategic move to leverage Azerbaijan’s expertise in oil and gas. “Our visits to Azerbaijan are historically significant as we open a new door for development between our two brotherly nations,” Mohamed said.
The agreement comes as both countries seek to expand international energy partnerships and boost economic ties.
