The African Union (AU) has called on all parties involved in the Tigray conflict to fully respect the terms of the ceasefire agreement signed between the Ethiopian government and the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF).
In a statement issued on Thursday, the AU emphasized the importance of honoring commitments made under the agreement and encouraged all stakeholders to work collectively toward a peaceful and lasting resolution to the conflict.
“The African Union urges all involved parties to fulfill their obligations and engage in constructive dialogue to maintain peace,” the statement read.
This comes after Getachew Reda, President of the Interim Administration of Tigray, warned about the potential for renewed instability in the region. He urged all sides to take proactive steps to prevent a slide back into violence and chaos.
The AU reaffirmed its ongoing commitment to supporting the peace deal’s implementation and facilitating continued dialogue and cooperation between the involved parties.
