KAMPALA – Uganda has launched a second round of its nationwide polio vaccination campaign, the health ministry announced on X (formerly Twitter).
“The second round of the Polio Vaccination campaign has kicked off in 49 Districts. Just 2 drops of the Polio Vaccine protects your child for life,” the ministry said in a statement.
Free vaccinations are being offered to children aged five and below. Health workers will visit all homes in 49 districts until Sunday.
The first round of the campaign, which included house-to-house vaccinations, took place from October 3-6. It was launched in response to a polio outbreak in Mbale city that began in May.
The World Health Organization (WHO) reported that over 6.5 million children were vaccinated against polio in Kenya and Uganda between October 3 and 6.
The Ugandan health ministry stressed the importance of the vaccination, stating, “Just 2 drops of the Polio Vaccine protects your child for life.”
