Uganda’s Chief of Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF), Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, arrived in Qatar on Sunday, marking a significant step in strengthening military cooperation between the two countries.

Gen Kainerugaba’s visit, at the invitation of the Qatari Armed Forces, aims to operationalize the 2017 military cooperation agreement signed between the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) and the Qatari Armed Forces. The agreement focuses on key areas such as training, intelligence sharing, and counter-terrorism efforts.

On Monday, Gen Kainerugaba met with leaders of the Military Police Forces and the National Service Academy of Qatar, engaging in discussions on mutual interests.

These visits by senior military officers from both countries are meant to foster mutual understanding and trust, a crucial aspect of this partnership.

Gen Kainerugaba is also expected to meet with Khaled bin Muhammed Al-Attiyah, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defence Affairs, further solidifying ties between the two nations.
