Sudanese Army Targets RSF Positions in Darfur and Kordofan as Displacement Mounts

The Sudanese army has targeted positions held by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Darfur and West Kordofan, as fighting intensifies across several fronts and renewed clashes drive civilians from their homes.

The army carried out military operations against RSF positions and concentrations in Nyala, the capital of South Darfur state, on Monday morning, targeting sites of strategic importance to the paramilitary group.

The strikes reportedly disrupted activity at several RSF positions across Darfur, where the group maintains control of key areas, including Nyala.

The army also targeted RSF gatherings in West Kordofan, particularly near Sudan’s border with South Sudan, as military operations continued on other fronts.

The RSF has established a parallel administration in areas under its control, challenging Sudan’s internationally recognised government, which is based in Khartoum.

Meanwhile, escalating fighting in Blue Nile state has triggered fresh displacement, with families fleeing border areas near South Sudan and Ethiopia towards Damazin, the state capital. Civilians face increasingly difficult humanitarian conditions as they seek safety from the violence.

Displacement is also continuing in West and South Kordofan, where active fighting is forcing residents to leave their homes and seek refuge in safer areas. Many are heading towards North Kordofan, particularly its capital, El Obeid.

The continued fighting across Darfur, Kordofan and Blue Nile highlights the widening geographical impact of Sudan’s conflict, with civilians facing mounting insecurity and growing humanitarian needs.
