Ethiopian Finance Minister Ahmed Shide and UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina J. Mohammed have reaffirmed their commitment to accelerating the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Ethiopia, according to ENA, a partner of TV BRICS.
During a high-level meeting, Shide outlined Ethiopia’s strategies for enhanced SDGs delivery, emphasizing the need for stronger coordination. Both officials stressed the importance of aligning SDG initiatives with Ethiopia’s development priorities. Collaboration between the Ethiopian government, the UN Country Team (UNCT), the UN Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), and the UN Resident Coordinator’s Office will be crucial.
Discussions focused on leveraging UNECA’s regional expertise and defining clear roles and responsibilities for improved partnership outcomes. Enhancing the UN system’s operational efficiency in Ethiopia was also identified as key to achieving development results.
Shide also provided updates on Ethiopia’s macroeconomic reforms and preparations for the Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development. Both sides pledged to explore further cooperation in areas of mutual benefit.
