Ethiopia has begun the second phase of its corridor development project in Addis Ababa, an initiative focused on upgrading infrastructure, improving transportation networks, and enhancing public spaces. Xinhua News Agency, a partner of TV BRICS, reported the project launch.

The initiative, covering 2,879 hectares, aims to transform the capital into a more sustainable and accessible city.

According to a statement from the Office of the Ethiopian Prime Minister, the project includes constructing 477km of roads, comprising 240km of asphalt roads and 237km of pedestrian walkways. The development also includes more than 200 public recreational areas and parking facilities, which authorities say will improve urban mobility and quality of life.

To promote environmentally friendly transport, 58 locations throughout the city will be equipped with electric vehicle charging stations, and more than 100km of dedicated bike lanes will be introduced. The project also incorporates the construction of 17 sports centres to encourage physical activity and community engagement.

The large-scale initiative is part of broader efforts to position Addis Ababa as a modern urban hub, offering improved infrastructure and amenities that meet the growing needs of its residents.
