Egypt is ready to share its development expertise and provide technical support to Mozambique as the two countries move to strengthen bilateral cooperation, Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty said on Monday.

Speaking at a joint press conference with Mozambican Foreign Minister Maria Lucas, Abdelatty said Egyptian companies that have helped drive the country’s infrastructure and development projects are well-positioned to support Mozambique’s sustainable development agenda.

He said Lucas’s visit coincides with the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Egypt and Mozambique, describing the relationship as one built on mutual trust and Egypt’s longstanding support for African liberation movements.

The ministers discussed ways to expand cooperation, with a particular focus on trade, investment and development, while reviewing progress on the outcomes of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s 2023 visit to Maputo.

Abdelatty said he had conveyed an invitation from President El-Sisi to his Mozambican counterpart to visit Cairo later this year, adding that both sides agreed to coordinate the timing of the visit to launch a new phase of bilateral cooperation.

The two countries also agreed to accelerate preparations for the third session of the Egypt-Mozambique Joint Higher Committee, which is scheduled to convene in Cairo.

Abdelatty said technical committees had been tasked with finalizing outstanding agreements and memoranda of understanding ahead of the committee’s meeting, paving the way for closer cooperation across a range of sectors.
