Ali Kolotou Tchaïmi was elected president of Chad’s fourth National Assembly on Tuesday, 4 February 2025. Tchaïmi, 53, brings extensive civil and military administrative experience to the role, having served in various governmental positions.
Easily identifiable by his distinctive boubou and stately presence, Tchaïmi hails from Salal in the Bahr El-Ghazel region. A prominent figure in the third legislature and a key player during the transition, he is a member of the Patriotic Salvation Movement (MPS). His background includes both civil administration, as a graduate of the National School of Administration and Magistracy of Chad, and military training from the Joint Military Officer Training School of Chad (GEMIA).
Tchaïmi has served as a deputy since 2011 and as a national advisor to the Transitional Assembly. He has also been a member of the CEMAC (Central African Economic and Monetary Community) Parliament since 2018, where he rose to the position of vice-president. He proudly notes his membership in the MPS party since 20 December 1990.
Before entering parliament, he held several positions within the state apparatus, including two terms as a sub-prefect and an advisor to the Presidency. His career has been marked by several decorations awarded by the late Marshal of Chad: Commander of the National Order of Chad (2009), Officer of the National Order of Chad, and Knight of the Order of Civic Merit in Chad.
As the new president of the National Assembly, Tchaïmi will leverage his experience to contribute to Chad’s democracy and development.
