General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Chief of Defence Forces of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF), arrived in the capital of Algeria, Algiers on Monday for bilateral military meetings with Algerian officials.
He is expected to hold talks with his counterpart, General Saïd Chanegriha, Minister Delegate to the Minister of National Defense and Chief of Staff of the People’s National Army of Algeria. The visit aims to strengthen military and bilateral cooperation between Uganda and Algeria.
Gen. Kainerugaba is accompanied by several high-ranking UPDF officers, including Maj. Gen. James Birungi, Chief of Defence Intelligence and Security; Maj. Gen. Bob Ogiki, Joint Staff Policy and Strategy; and Maj. Gen. Keith Katungi, 5th Division Infantry Commander. Upon arrival, they were received by senior Algerian military officials.
Since he was appointed head of UPDF in March of last year, Gen. Kainerugaba has met with counterparts across Africa, including in Egypt, Rwanda, and Ethiopia, to foster stronger military and bilateral ties.
