The Government of Burundi, in partnership with the African Union (AU) and the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM), on Monday opened the 5th Continental Dialogue on Youth, Peace and Security and the Women, Peace and Security Forum in Bujumbura.
The three-day event, held under the theme of Youth, Peace and Security in Africa, brings together young people, youth experts, senior government officials, diplomats and representatives from across the continent to discuss the role of youth and women in promoting peace, stability and security.
The official opening ceremony took place at the Kiriri Presidential Palace and was attended by Burundi President Évariste Ndayishimiye, who delivered the keynote address.
The gathering provides a platform for African stakeholders to exchange views on challenges facing young people and ways to strengthen their participation in peacebuilding, conflict prevention and decision-making processes across the continent.
APRM Chief Executive Officer Ambassador Marie-Antoinette Rose-Quatre also addressed the opening session, highlighting key issues shaping the future of Africa’s youth and emphasizing the importance of inclusive approaches to peace and security.
The dialogue is expected to feature discussions over the next three days on youth engagement, women’s participation in peace and security efforts, conflict prevention and mechanisms to strengthen the role of young Africans in shaping the continent’s future.
The event comes as African institutions continue to emphasize greater youth and women participation in efforts to address conflicts, promote stability and advance sustainable development across the continent.
