Darfur regional governor Minni Arko Minnawi said on Saturday that Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF) were committing war crimes in the city of El Fasher, citing escalating attacks on civilians as fighting widens across the region.
In remarks to Al-Qahera News Channel, Minnawi said the RSF’s abuses were not confined to El Fasher, adding that the group was carrying out killings and rapes targeting women and children in several areas of Darfur.
He said Sudan had repeatedly warned the international community that the fall of El Fasher would be followed by “rivers of blood,” and described the humanitarian situation as “extremely difficult,” with acute shortages of food, water and shelter.
Minnawi said displaced people in El Fasher faced ongoing threats, including kidnapping and indiscriminate violence. He added that Egypt’s role in the crisis remained positive, saying Cairo consistently supported Sudan’s unity and sovereignty.
