The Russian Ministry of Health has expressed its readiness to support the training of Ethiopian doctors and expand cooperation in the healthcare sector. Russian Health Minister Mikhail Murashko and Ethiopian Ambassador to Moscow Genet Teshome Girru discussed the plans and prospects for development in the current year, according to the ministry’s website.
During the meeting, Murashko and Girru agreed to increase comprehensive cooperation, including in medical education. Murashko said that 24 Ethiopian citizens are currently studying at Russian universities. According to Fana Media Corporation (FMC), a partner of TV BRICS, he added that the Russian government is prepared to expand this cooperation and support the training of Ethiopian specialists in specialised medical fields.
“Today, among other things, we are engaged in training specialists who already have medical education,” Murashko said. “In particular, 87 Ethiopian medical professionals have been trained in our country on maternal and child care.”
The Minister and the Ambassador also outlined joint plans, including consultations for patients in Ethiopia by Russian specialists. Murashko added that Russian medics are ready to share their expertise with their Ethiopian counterparts.
Moscow and Addis Ababa maintain active cooperation in the health sphere. Russia supplies mobile laboratories to Ethiopia to support the country’s efforts to strengthen its healthcare system.
